The product is free and intended for anyone with a smartphone who is trained in providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation. PulsePoint Apps allow people within the City of Portland to receive alerts on their smartphones that let them know that they may have a chance to possibly save. GPS-enabled cell phones can be alerted, based on their location, to a CPR medical call and the closest automated external defibrillator (AED) in that area. Both of the free apps are available through Google Play or the Apple App Store.On April 11, 2017, Sussex County announced the rollout of PulsePoint Respond®, a new high-tech tool designed to alert smartphone owners of cardiac arrest calls near their location, allowing them to respond and administer CPR immediately until first responders arrive.

The PulsePoint AED version will also show the location of any nearby AED devices registered in PF&R’s database. Users can help expand the AED database by registering AED locations through the app. PulsePoint AED lets you report and update AED locations so that emergency responders, including nearby citizens trained in CPR and off-duty professionals. PulsePoint provides the exact location of the individual in distress as well as the nearest automatic external defibrillator (AED). The PulsePoint Respond app issues an alert and, once clicked, triggers a map to pop up on the smartphone of all registered users who are within a quarter mile of someone in cardiac distress.
